Tenkara, Japanese fly fishing

Tenkara (天から), literally meaning “From Heaven” and is a minimalist Japanese form of fly fishing, without a reel, utilizing a telescopic rod, a fixed line, and an artificial fly. This form of fly fishing has been practiced in Japan for approximately 200 years for fishing with artificial flies on small rivers and streams. 

This method of fishing returns us to the easy basics: Rod – Line – Fly –> Fish

Fly casting

I had an introductory fly fishing lesson on Saturday morning from Leon Godijk, a certified fly casting instructor. A very friendly guy with a lot of experience who explained it excellently and provided a great deal of information. I am going to take another lesson in early August for more advanced casts.

Via him I also purchased a complete alround fly fishing set: 100vliegen
